Esquivias
The municipality is known as “Cuna del Quijote” (birthplace of the Quijote) for being the place where Sir Miguel de Cervantes and Madam Catalina de Salazar y Palacios got married and served as inspiration for the distinguished writer to create some of its characters. All of this is featured in the Cervantes’ House Museum, an old property which functioned as the couples’ home for 20 years and has preserved all the characteristic aspects of the casonas (large houses) where accommodated farmers used to live in the 16th century.
Chinchón
It is located only 35km away from Hotel Hidalgo, it offers a wide municipality full of contrasts, culminating in a historical centre filled with tourist attractions such as the Church of Our Madame of Asunción, the Lope de Vega Theatre, its hermits and the Main Square, declared the 4th material marvel of the Community of Madrid. The holydays also hold importance in this guide.
Illescas
It is the capital of the La Sagra region. Among its monumental patrimony, the parish Church of la Asunción, thanks to the conjunction of styles and epochs that can be seen in it. Other visit is that of the Hospital-Sanctuary of the Charity, of the 16 and 17 centuries and that holds a collection of 5 beautiful paintings of El Greco. Finally, the door of Ugena, a mudéjar masonry construction, is also a mandatory visit.
Carranque
If you visit Carranque you will time travel to the past in its archaeological park. The spectacular mosaic collection oh Materno House and the magnificent columns of the Palatium are reason enough to justify visiting the site. The excavations on site started back in year 1983 thanks to the fortunate discovery of a mosaic; the result: the discovery and highlight the importance of one of the most important monumental complexes of Roman Hispania, closed at the end of the 4th century and possibly related to the Emperor Theodosius the 1st the Great.
Aranjuez
The Real Sitio y Villa de Aranjuez is one of the Royal Places of the Crown of Spain since Felipe the 2nd named it in 1560. It is famous thanks to it Royal Palace, its gardens and the square-grid of its streets, to the strawberries and asparaguses crops; for being the place of inspiration for music composer Joaquin Rodrigo for his Concierto de Aranjuez; as well for the so-called Mutiny of Aranjuez that took place there in 1808 and ended up with the abdication of Carlos the 4th in favour of his son Fernando the 7th. The cultural landscape of aranjuez was noun Human Heritage by the Unesco in 2001.
